GFX Technology

Dr. Gwen Maxwell and Dr. Veena Kumar are the first plastic surgeons in the region to offer patients GFX technology. Surgery will be performed in the comfort and privacy of their state certified ambulatory center under anesthesia.

GFX is a minimally invasive procedure to reduce and eliminate frown lines. This procedure is one of the most exciting developments in facial aesthetic surgery as it offers the plastic surgeon and patients an alternative to Botox. Botox is currently the most popular treatment for the reduction of forehead frowning in the glabellar area which is the part of the forehead between the eyebrows. The US Food and Drug Administration approved the use of Botox for the temporary reduction of forehead frowning in 2002 as a cosmetic indication. The new GFX procedure is being reviewed for a similar indication but for a longer duration of effect.

GFX technology utilizes bipolar radio frequency (RF) to target motor nerves ( the nerves that initiate muscle action). An effective nerve block applied to the motor nerves initiating muscle action has been shown to reduce or eliminate such action. Bipolar Radio Frequency has been used in lifesaving cardiology treatments for over 10 years. Advanced Cosmetic Intervention has adapted this safe and proven technology to precisely generate an area of ablation on targeted structures. Using the GFX system, your doctor can locate and treat these structures.

Good candidates for GFX are people who want to to soften frown lines and relax the gallbelar muscle (the muscle that causes the lines between the brows). For patients that want the frozen appearance, GFX may not be the procedure for you.

Recovery time is minimal. Patients can return to normal activities within 24 hours of the procedure. Some patients may experience mild bruising and swelling that can last 3 to 10 days.
