Breast Implants
The most common procedure performed on the breast is augmentation. The breasts are enhanced by various sizes of silicone shells filled with salt water that are placed under the muscle tissue of the chest wall or under the breast gland. Most breast implants in young women are placed under the muscle.
The shells are silicone sacs filled with saline fluid (salt water) after insertion into the breast pockets. The silicone bags have a textured or smooth surface, with the size and shape varring according to the manufacturer.
Augmentation surgery usually takes an hour and is performed in our State Certified Surgical Center. Recovery time depends on the individual patient and the implant placement. Soreness and discomfort are felt in the breast for one to two days following surgery. Prescription medications are provided to help relieve this discomfort. You can normally return to work in less than one week, but active exercise should be avoided for four to six weeks.
