Breast Augmentation

Dr. Gwen Maxwell, Maxwell Aesthetics Medical Spa and Cosmetic Surgery Center in Tucson, Arizona/Breast Augmentation

The most common procedure performed on the breast is augmentation. The breasts are enhanced by various sizes of silicone shells filled with salt water or silicone gel, that are placed under the muscle tissue of the chest wall or under the breast gland. Most breast implants in young women are placed under the muscle.

The shells are silicone sacs filled with saline fluid (salt water) or silicone gel after insertion into the breast pockets. The silicone shells have a textured or smooth surface. The size, shape, and style varys according to the patient’s needs and the surgeon’s recommendation.

Breast Augmentation surgery usually takes an hour and is performed in our State Certified Surgical Center. Recovery time depends on the individual patient and the implant placement. Soreness and discomfort are felt in the breast for one to two days following surgery. Prescription medications are provided to help relieve this discomfort.  You can normally return to work in less than one week, but active exercise should be avoided for four to six weeks.
